I am a maths teacher in Limerick, and I am building an AI tutor for my own students.
I have taught Leaving Cert maths here for 15 years. The classes are small and they work. What I have been building this year is the part that happens after class, when your child is at home with the homework and gets stuck and there is nobody to ask.
Why I started building it
You have your one grind a week with me. That is the main thing and that is not changing. Then there is the rest of the week, and that is where most of the year gets won or lost. Your child sits down to the homework, hits a question they cannot start, and usually that is where it stops for the night.
So I built the thing I would want them to have at that moment. They photograph what they have written and get help that answers the way I answer, on the course they are actually sitting, at the point where they are actually stuck.
It comes with the classes and I am not selling it on its own, because I want to see what it is telling students. What I read during the week is what I go over in the next class.
Some of what it does now
Your child photographs the page and it matches what they are looking at against the exam papers and my own sheets. If it cannot tell for certain which question it is, it says so instead of guessing, because sending a student off working on the wrong question does more damage than admitting it does not know.
Most of the marks in this exam are in the working, so that is what it looks at. It goes down through what they have written, finds the first line where it went wrong, and corrects from there rather than handing over a finished solution they did not write.
If they want to keep going themselves it will point at the bit that is holding them up and leave the rest to them. If they are properly stuck it will go through the whole thing.
Every question in the Leaving Cert papers is tagged, Higher and Ordinary, so when something goes wrong it can put more of the same kind in front of them, or drop back to the bit of first-year algebra that is actually causing the problem.
Students photograph the homework and hand it in that way, so I can see what was attempted and where people got stuck before I walk into the room. You get told during the week how your own child is getting on rather than finding out in June.

How to get it
If you are in or near Limerick
The classes are at Leamy House in Limerick City, once a week. €35 a week. Leaving Cert groups are capped at 8 and Junior Cert at 6, so nobody sits at the back saying nothing. Your child gets the class and the tutor at home with it. September places are going now and putting a name down costs nothing.
