Stephen, available whenever they’re stuck.

AI Stephen is not another chatbot. It's Stephen King's own AI tutor, trained on his methods, his worksheets and the mistakes he's corrected thousands of times, and wired directly into his classes. If your child is a Leamy Maths student, it comes home with them.

Your child can already paste homework into ChatGPT. That's the problem.

Free AI happily hands over answers. Research on AI tutors found exactly what every teacher suspected: students using answer-giving AI scored better on tonight's homework and worse on the real exam: practice scores jumped, but unaided exam performance dropped 17%. Tutors built to teach, not just answer, lifted practice results 127% with no loss when the AI was taken away.

A generic chatbot

  • Answers any question, any way, usually not the way the marking scheme wants
  • Has never seen your child's course, homework or last week's mistake
  • Solves the problem for them and moves on
  • Will never tell you whether homework got done

AI Stephen

  • Answers the way Stephen teaches it in class: same method, same voice
  • Knows the course, this week's sheet, and the mistakes Irish LC students actually make
  • Shows the fix, then points at the next question: "that's how I'll know you've got it"
  • Keeps a weekly record parents actually see

The evidence for doing it properly

Double the learning, in less time. A Harvard randomised controlled trial found students using a well-designed AI tutor learned more than twice as much as an active-learning classroom, in less study time (effect size 0.73–1.3 SD, published in Scientific Reports, 2025).Kestin et al., Scientific Reports, June 2025
1-to-1 tutoring is the most effective thing in education. Students tutored individually perform around two standard deviations better than a conventional classroom: the famous "Bloom 2-sigma" result. It just never scaled. Until now.Benjamin Bloom, "The 2 Sigma Problem", 1984
Teacher-in-the-loop beats AI alone. Trials of supervised AI tutoring, where a real teacher reviews the AI's conversations, outperformed both unsupervised AI and human-only tutoring on transferring skills to new topics. That supervision is built into AI Stephen: Stephen reviews its work weekly, and what he sees shapes Thursday's class.Google LearnLM UK maths RCT, 2025

How it works for your child

Stuck at homework? Snap a photo. No typing equations. AI Stephen reads the working, the actual handwriting, finds the first real mistake, and fixes it the way Stephen would on the board.
Every answer ends with the next question. Stephen's classroom line, "I'll know if you understood me by how you get on in the next question", is built into the software. Understanding gets tested, not claimed.
Homework gets handed in by photo. Submitted work is tracked automatically: which questions were attempted, what went wrong, done or not done, so class time is for teaching, not correcting.
You get the honest weekly picture. A short parent update built from the real record: homework in or not, what your child worked on, what's being addressed in class. Not a newsletter: your child's week.

Why only Stephen can build this

Anyone can wrap a chatbot. Nobody else has 15 years of Limerick classrooms, 695 recorded lessons, worksheets engineered so each question is one step harder than the last, and a catalogue of the exact mistakes Leaving Cert students make, collected one corrected copybook at a time.

That's what AI Stephen is made of. The AI industry calls this "domain expertise". Parents call it a teacher who knows your kid's course.

Included with enrolment. Not sold separately.

AI Stephen comes with Leamy Maths classes: the only grinds in Ireland where the teacher comes home with you. Places for September are capped (8 per Leaving Cert group, 6 per Junior Cert group).
